DRINKING VESSELS IN GLASS FOR FUNCTION-VARIED PERSONS
Traditional glass work, industrial design, co-design with individuals with function-variations.

Living with a weakened grip can be difficult. Not only is it hard to hold an object, it also has an adverse effect on a person’s self-esteem. No one wants to feel that they are excluded or diminished as a person.

There are a number of different grip-assisted drinking vessels available today. These are usually plastic cups with handles and other additions. Many of these products tend to resemble baby products, something that, considering the shape and materials of existing products, could make a person feel diminished.

In this project, I work with glass as the main material in the product category. Glass as a material is valued in many cultures as something fine and fragile. It is therefore both important and interesting to use this material to make a product designed for people who have difficulties gripping objects. I am leading the project, but my stakeholders affect the results. I don’t have their hands and experience of living with their varying disabilities, which directly affect function, shape and expression.
