Sedari Suedi

Sedari is a piece of furniture that is found in many Moroccan homes. Suedi is slang for “Swedish” and Sedari Suedi is the title of my degree project.

Artifacts affect how we live, socialize and interact. Furniture also has inherent functional, emotional and symbolic values. The Arabic expression Baraka describes physical and emotional fulfilment and is based on the value of socialization and hospitality. Baraka, or social meetings in the home, is an important part of many cultures day to day life. What does the hospitality in Sweden look like? Are there artifacts that enable or restrict hospitality?

Moroccan culture is the foundation of this project. Through my own experiences of the culture and in research in both eastern Morocco and in Sweden, I explore how interactions in the home and hospitality can be emphasized. The proposal Sedari Suedi aims to inspire interaction and contribute to a nuanced image of furniture traditions in Sweden.

Sedari Suedi

Hur ser gästfriheten ut i hem i Sverige idag?
