Master / CRAFT! Textiles
For my degree project, I explore the meeting between my textile craft-knowledge and my painting practice.
By questioning the expression ‘the blank canvas’* and by looking closer at the canvas, I discover that it´s not blank but in fact filled with materiality and certain qualities. The canvas is fabric-weave-thread; I want to highlight the textile’s history and its characteristics.
Through the method of depiction, zooming in and out, and highlighting the weave, I want to create playful, vibrant and material paintings.
* Blank canvas – a person or thing that has nothing of substance or permanence imprinted upon them, in such that they can easily be filled with entirely new things. Referring to the painter’s canvas that has yet to be painted on.
I mitt examensarbete utforskar jag mötet mellan min textila kunskap och mitt måleri.
Jag ifrågasätter uttrycket “Den tomma målarduken”* och tittar närmare på duken för att upptäcka att den inte alls är tom utan fylld med materialitet och egna egenskaper. Målarduken är tyg-väv-tråd. Jag vill prata om vävens historia och egenskaper.
Genom att avbilda, zooma in/ut och att synliggöra väven, vill jag skapa lekfulla, vibrerande och materiella målningar.
*Den tomma målarduken – en person eller sak som inte har något spår av innehåll, så att den/det kan fyllas med vad som helst. Refererar till konstnärens orörda målarduk.
